The Three Steps to Leadership

G12 Life Group Notes– February 24, 2013 – 6:30 a.m. Pastor Goudeaux Open in Prayer Song - Testimonies Prayer of Three Witnessing Receive Offering The Three Steps of Leadership: Following, Serving, and Leading John 1:41-43 (KJV) 41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messiah, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. FOLLOWING: There are 3 revelations • 1st revelation: verse 41…He findeth his own brother—Witnessing should begin in your family first! • 2nd revelation: verse 42…….He brought him to Jesus—You should bring them the church • 3rd revelation verse 43… he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas,--Once you bring them to church—God will have a word for them! LEADERSHIP: Verse 43: “Follow me” Is the 1st stage of Leadership Matthew 4:18-22(KJV) 18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him. Value Shift—causes you to see what is more preeminent in your life • Gods plan and purpose is for you to be a great successful leader • Each level of leadership brings another level of values being shifted • You won’t see the sacrifice that needs to be made unless your values have shifted • He is shifting their value from fishing for fish to fishing for men! Vs 18-19 • If you are going to be remembered, it will be because of your value shift • The higher your values, the greater the sacrifice you will have to make • The higher your values, the greater your character • verses 20 shows: they recognized that following Jesus was more important than anything else • When you as a leader can help people to recognize that…..that’s when “thy kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven” • If you can help people shift their values….they will immediately follow • You must shift with God, if you will shift, you must start it with “prayer” Matthew 9:9 (KJV) 9 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him. • Homework: Find out the revelation on following Jesus that Clarence McClendon spoke about when he was at CCC • Value Shift brings you to sacrifice and to another level. Your values must shift • Follow me. And he arose, and followed him…they followed him immediately • There was a way that Jesus presented it to them, that made them immediately follow him • Have a greater commitment to the Vision and to G-12 • When you step up your game…..God will step up His game • If you can’t do your meeting, you should have raised up a leader to do the meeting for you • G-12 is every week, Life groups can be once, twice, or three times. If you don’t have a G-12 you can do your life group every week! Luke 5:10-11(KJV) 10And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. 11And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him. • People want promotion without a value shift • Your values have to be elevated in order for you to be elevated—it’s a kingdom principal! • When it comes to giving, their values have not been shifted • The biggest challenge with moving into another value shift is fighting the spirit of fear! • They were in partnership with Him: James, John, the sons of Zebedee • If you are going to be remembered, it will be because of the lives you affected as a result of your value shift
